x-trade has been developed as completely object-oriented. The goal was and remains that of developing an application independent as far as possible of databases and platforms. The basis for this is Smalltalk, one of the first completely object-oriented programming languages in the VisualAge programming environment (formally IBM, now Instantiations), from which the name VA Smalltalk arises. If one considers the combination of developer productivity, system stability and runtime behaviour, the decision for Smalltalk proved to be a very good choice, also when other programming languages may possibly offer individual advantages in certain areas.

maxess has access to the complete Smalltalk source code so that, thanks to the proprietary know-how, any problems can also almost certainly be solved without external product support. For this reason maxess guarantees smooth development of x-trade for years to come, even with possible omission of vendor support, either on a Smalltalk environment from another vendor or a smooth changeover to another programming language.
