maxess systemhaus gmbh was founded in 1995 as MARKANT SÜDWEST Software und Dienstleistungs GmbH from its parent group, MARKANT-SÜDWEST Handels AG (today WASGAU Produktions & Handels AG).

Following which at the site in Kaiserslautern it entered into cooperation with the Fraunhofer institute for experimental software engineering IESE. The merchandise management system WWS2000 (today x-trade suite) was developed jointly in 1998, a system supporting all merchandise management relevant workflows such as procurement, inventory management, sales etc. and guaranteeing the required information flow.

Today x-trade suite is among the top German retail systems.

The company changed its name in October 2000. MARKANT SÜDWEST Software und Dienstleistungs GmbH became maxess systemhaus gmbh, a modern business that has developed on the basis of extensive experience and practice into the expert for IT solutions in the foodstuffs trade.

Since 2013 maxess is part of the Swiss company group Bison.
